An evaporative humidifier moves air through a wet wick or media and can add moisture with no visible fog at all. An ultrasonic model normally creates a visible plume when mist output is active. A hybrid model may combine ultrasonic output with a heating function, while a true warm-mist model creates visible steam after its documented warm-up period.
After choosing a model, compare the checker result with what the machine is actually doing. For an evaporative unit, look for airflow, water use, wick condition, and humidity response rather than fog. For an ultrasonic or hybrid unit, first separate an automatic humidity-target pause from a genuine no-mist condition. For warm-mist equipment, allow the exact model’s documented heat-up time before deciding that steam production has failed.
